Histoire
The Virgin Mojito is the alcohol-free version of the mojito, a classic born in Cuba. Its history is closely tied to that of the traditional mojito, whose origins date back at least to the early 20th century, although some sources mention older predecessors combining rum, lime, sugar, and mint in the Caribbean. The mojito established itself as an iconic cocktail of Havana, and later as one of the international symbols of Cuban culture.
The Virgin Mojito does not have an origin as old or as precisely documented as the alcoholic mojito: it is a modern adaptation, emerging with the rise of non-alcoholic cocktails and the growing demand for festive rum-free alternatives. It retains the essential elements of the mojito—lime, mint, sugar, and the freshness brought by crushed ice and soda water—while removing the alcohol to preserve the cocktail’s original spirit.
In its current form, the Virgin Mojito has become popular in bars, restaurants, and hotels around the world thanks to its simplicity and very fresh aromatic profile. It perfectly illustrates a trend in contemporary mixology: creating alcohol-free drinks crafted with as much care as a classic cocktail, highlighting the balance between the acidity of lime, the sweetness of cane sugar syrup, and the brightness of mint.
