Histoire
The Cherry Mojito is a contemporary variation of the classic mojito, a cocktail born in Cuba and popularized in its modern form in the 20th century. Originally, the mojito combined rum, sugar, lime, mint, and soda water; the Cherry Mojito builds on this iconic base by adding red fruits, here cherry and strawberry, to bring a softer, more colorful, and more indulgent dimension.
Its history is not tied to a single ancient origin like that of the traditional mojito, but rather to the evolution of so-called “twists”, meaning modern variations on a familiar recipe. This type of adaptation developed alongside the international spread of mixology and the search for fruit-forward flavors, especially in cocktail bars and summer menus. The addition of cherries and strawberries follows a simple logic: to enrich the mojito’s aroma without masking the freshness brought by the mint, lime, and soda water.
White rum remains the base spirit, true to the spirit of the mojito, while cane sugar syrup helps balance the acidity of the lime and the brightness of the fruit. Crushed ice also plays an essential role, as it is characteristic of long, refreshing drinks served in a tall glass. The Cherry Mojito thus fits into the tradition of reimagined Cuban cocktails, with a fruitier identity, but still centered on freshness.
