Histoire
Peach Kir is a fruity, slightly sweet variation of the famous Kir, a cocktail originally from Burgundy, France. The traditional Kir is made with dry white wine, usually a Bourgogne Aligoté, combined with crème de cassis, a blackcurrant liqueur. It is named after Félix Kir, a Burgundian priest and politician who popularized the drink in the postwar period, especially at official receptions.
Peach Kir replaces crème de cassis with crème de pêche, a sweet liqueur made from peaches macerated in alcohol. This substitution gives it a lighter, fruitier flavor, well suited to summer occasions or to palates looking for a more indulgent touch. The cocktail, however, keeps the same simple and elegant formula: a little liqueur poured into a glass, topped with dry white wine.
This drink is an approachable introduction for cocktail lovers, highlighting the pairing of a crisp white wine with a sweet liqueur. Its use and popularity remain especially strong in the wine-growing regions of eastern France, where Kir first appeared. Peach Kir, though more modern, carries on this friendly, regional tradition.
