Histoire
The Daiquiri is originally a Cuban cocktail that emerged in the late 19th century, generally attributed to the Daiquirí region near Santiago de Cuba. Its classic formula is simple and highly structured: white rum, lime juice, and sugar. This framework, which has become one of the great models of balance in mixology, later inspired many fruity variations served blended or frozen.
The Frozen Mango Daiquiri belongs to this family of modern variations that emerged with the popularization of blenders, crushed ice, and very cold tropical cocktails. Mango, a fruit now widely associated with Caribbean bars and tropical regions, is not part of the Daiquiri’s historical recipe, but it fits in naturally thanks to its sweetness, which offsets the acidity of the lime and extends the freshness of the white rum.
This frozen version is therefore part of the Daiquiri’s evolution toward fruitier, more indulgent preparations, often sought after in summer cocktails. The addition of powdered sugar helps adjust the texture and the sweet-tart balance, while the crushed ice gives it its characteristic blended appearance. The result is not a historical cocktail in the strict sense, but a contemporary interpretation of a great Cuban classic.
